1. The agreement

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) are a legal agreement between you and Walklore (“we”, “us”). By creating an account, downloading the app, or using the service, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy.

If you don’t agree, please don’t use Walklore.

2. Who can use Walklore

You must be at least 13 years old (16 where required by local law, such as in parts of the EU) to use Walklore. If you use the service on behalf of an organization, you represent that you are authorized to accept these Terms on its behalf.

3. Your account

  • We authenticate you through Google Sign-In. You are responsible for the security of your Google account.
  • You may only create one personal account. Don’t impersonate anyone or share credentials.
  • You can delete your account at any time from Settings → Delete account in the app, or on the web at /delete-account. Deletion is permanent.

4. AI-generated content

Walklore stories are generated automatically by large language models and read aloud by synthetic voices. The service combines AI output with publicly sourced material (encyclopedias, open maps, historical archives).

Stories may contain mistakes. Names, dates, quotations, and events may be inaccurate, mixed up, or invented (“hallucinated”) by the AI. Walklore is an entertainment and exploration product — not a scholarly, journalistic, or professional historical source. Verify anything that matters before relying on it.

If a story offends you, is harmful, or is obviously wrong, please tap the Report button in the app or email abuse@walklore.app. We review reports and remove content that violates our policies.

5. Walk safely

Do not use Walklore while driving, cycling, or crossing roads. Keep your eyes on your surroundings. Wear at most one earbud so you can hear traffic. Walklore is designed for calm, pedestrian use in safe areas.

You are responsible for your own safety. We are not liable for injury, loss, or damage resulting from inattentive use of the app.

6. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Scrape, mirror, or otherwise systematically extract content from Walklore except as our public interfaces intend.
  • Reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract source code (except where such restriction is prohibited by law).
  • Probe, attack, or disrupt the service or its infrastructure.
  • Submit content that is unlawful, defamatory, infringing, or that contains personal data of other people without their consent.
  • Use Walklore to generate content for harassment, hate speech, or disinformation campaigns.
  • Resell, sublicense, or repackage the service without our written permission.

7. Content & attribution

Walklore draws on several open-data sources, each governed by its own license:

  • Wikipedia / Wikimedia Commons: text and images are licensed under CC BY-SA 4.0 and similar open licenses. In-app attribution is provided alongside the sourced material.
  • OpenStreetMap: map and POI data © OpenStreetMap contributors, licensed under ODbL.
  • Google Maps: used under the Google Maps Platform Terms of Service.

The product itself, including the software, brand, visual design, and aggregated narration, is the property of Walklore and its licensors and is protected by copyright and related laws. The license we grant you is limited: a non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use the service for personal, non-commercial purposes.

8. Content you submit

When you submit a photo via “What is this place?” or otherwise upload content, you grant Walklore a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to process that content for the purpose of generating your story. We don’t claim ownership of your content and we don’t use it to train our own models.

Don’t submit anything you don’t have the right to share (e.g. photos of people without their consent, or copyrighted material you don’t own).

9. Changes to the service

Walklore is under active development. Features may be added, changed, or removed. We’ll give reasonable notice for material changes that affect how you use the service. Continued use after a change means you accept it; if you don’t, you can stop using Walklore and delete your account.

10. Termination

You can stop using Walklore at any time. We can suspend or terminate your access if you break these Terms, use the service to cause harm, or create legal or security risk for us. Where reasonably possible we’ll give you notice before doing so.

11. Warranty disclaimer

Walklore is provided “as is”. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties — express, implied, or statutory — including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, availability, and non-infringement.

We don’t warrant that stories are accurate, that the service will be uninterrupted, or that it will meet your expectations. This disclaimer does not limit any warranty that cannot be excluded under applicable consumer-protection law.

12. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Walklore and its providers are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or exemplary damages, or for lost profits, lost data, or lost goodwill, arising from your use of the service.

Our total liability for any claim related to the service is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim, or (b) €50. Some jurisdictions don’t allow these limitations; in that case, they apply to the maximum extent allowed.

13. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction where Walklore is established, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. You agree that any dispute will be resolved in the courts of that jurisdiction, subject to any mandatory consumer-protection rules in your country of residence.

Placeholder: specify governing law and forum once Walklore’s legal entity and home jurisdiction are finalized.
